The 2017 ACHE West Regional Conference will be held at the San Francisco State University, Downtown Campus located at 835 Market Street, San Francisco, California 94103. The conference will begin at 12 pm on Wednesday, February 22nd and end at 12 pm on Friday, February 24th.

Regina Cash
Interim Director, Academic and Professional Programs

Regina Cash is Interim Director of Academic and Professional Programs for the College of Continuing and Professional Education at California State University, Long Beach. Ms. Cash oversees all the credit and noncredit programming for the college, as well as business development and corporate education. Ms. Cash is a Certified Workforce Development Professional through the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals and has over 20 years of experience in this field. She holds an undergraduate degree in Human Services, a mediation certificate and a graduate degree in Negotiation, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding. She is currently in a post graduate degree program, with a focus on higher education and adult learning.

At Oregon State University, Melanie develops and delivers self-paced custom e-learning and custom employee training for businesses of every size with her team of writers, programmers, instructional designers, videographers, graphic designers, project managers, enrollment specialists and marketing professionals. Oregon State’s employee training solutions address the most pressing challenges facing organizations. Whether the company’s goal is to build a leadership program or prepare new managers for future roles, Melanie works closely with the company to bring the appropriate mix of courses or instructional services to help further the education of their employees. 

Prior to joining Oregon State University, Melanie was the director of management, marketing and business programs at UC Irvine Extension, the continuing education arm of University of California, Irvine. Melanie developed and managed a large portfolio of diverse certificate programs in areas of Internet Marketing, Social Media, Marketing, Project Management and Agile Project Management. Melanie holds a bachelor’s degree in educational foundations from the University of Oregon, a master’s degree in special education from Chapman University, and a Project Management Certificate from UC Irvine Extension.

Christine IrionChristine Irion

Christine Irion has over 16 years of experience planning, developing, and managing professional development programs at Sacramento State, College of Continuing Education. As Program Director for Sacramento State’s Extension Programs, Ms. Irion provides strategic direction and leadership, develops new programs and business, and directs operations. The Extension Programs unit delivers over 60 certificate programs and contract trainings each year. In previous roles with the university, Ms. Irion was fundamental in the development of online courses for government clients and drove organizational development for Extension Programs. Prior to joining Sacramento State, Ms. Irion administered grants and special projects at an accredited non-profit Native American two-year college. Ms. Irion earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Women’s Studies and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Policy Studies, both from Sacramento State.

Steven S. Christensen started as a financial manager for Brigham Young University Division of Continuing Education in August 2010.  Four five years prior, he worked as a tax accountant for various public accounting firms.  Steve received his Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Southern Utah University and his Master’s degree in accounting from the University of Phoenix, online.  He is also currently working on a second Master’s degree in Instructional Psychology and Technology at Brigham Young University.  Steve was born in Blanding, Utah and has lived in Madison, Indiana; Lexington, Kentucky; and Cedar City, Utah.  He is married to Mandy Jo Welsh from Madison, Indiana.  They have four children and currently live in Orem, Utah.

Alex Read is a program manager at Sacramento State University in the College of Continuing Education. Alex has been in continuing higher education for over 10 years. As a program manager, he develops, designs, and manages professional development programs. He is also a board member with the Sacramento Association for Talent Development (ATD). Alex is involved in his community as a soccer and baseball coach. Alex holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California State University, Chico and a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Phoenix, Sacramento campus.

Eric Bullard, Ph.D. currently as the Dean of the College of Professional and Global Education and Senior International Officer for the campus at California State University, Los Angeles. In this role, he leads all extended and international education initiatives. Dr. Bullard is an active member of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) and the Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE). Dr. Bullard currently serves on the Board of Directors for the ACHE and on the Editorial Board of the Journal for Continuing Higher Education (JCHE), a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to research and scholarship in continuing higher education. He has over 15 years of experience in continuing higher education and has previously held administrative positions in continuing higher education at California State University, Long Beach, California State University, San Marcos, and California State University, Bakersfield.

Thomas provides strategic leadership and direction for academic and professional programs offered by the College of Professional and Global Education. He manages staff who support campus faculty in developing and implementing degree and post-baccalaureate certificate programs, as well as staff who work with subject matter experts and practitioners to develop and implement professional extension-credit certificate programs. Thomas earned a Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication and a Juris Doctor degree. Prior to his role in higher education, he was a practicing attorney

Deirdre Thomas
Assistant Dean of Professional and Continuing Education
California State University, San Bernardino

Deirdre Thomas is the Assistant Dean of Professional and Continuing Education at California State University, San Bernardino. In this role, Deirdre provides strategic leadership in the development and implementation of various programs, including degrees, credit and non-credit certificates, summer session, personal enrichment, middle and high school programs, customized training and the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the Palm Desert Campus. Prior to joining CSUSB, Deirdre was a Senior Vice President for Cambridge Integrated Services and had served in the insurance industry for more than 26 years with oversight of multiple operations in multi-jurisdictions performing risk management and claims administration for large employers.

A native of San Bernardino, she is passionate about reducing income inequality and increasing educational and economic opportunities within San Bernardino County. Deirdre’s professional accomplishments are complemented by her dedication to community service. She currently serves as a Commissioner for the County of San Bernardino Equal Opportunity Commission, is a Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster youth, is Past President of Lion’s Club, and is a member and past 1 st Vice President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Deirdre holds a Masters’ in Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific and a Bachelors’ in Business Administration and Management from the University of Redlands.
